Music on the Rock – Music for a New Humanity

The Island Consort, in conjunction with the Whidbey Island Arts Council is presenting “New Music on the Rock”, a festival of contemporary classical music written by composers living in the greater Seattle area. The event will happen on June 18, 2017 at the Whidbey Institute in the Thomas Berry Hall. The Institute offers a beautiful landscape and meeting place for groups, retreats and events with various venues and accommodations. The Thomas Berry Hall will feature two programs of new music for this event; one at 2 pm with music by composers Huck Hodge, Neil Welch, Kit Mills and a special appearance by Stuart Dempster. A second program at 7 pm will feature the works of composer in residence, Jerry Mader of Whidbey Island. There will be a Composer’s Forum at 4 pm; a discussion of the social relevance of music in our time and a Q & A session for the audience to get to know the composers. Admission is $20 for each concert or $35 for both.
