Race Week_DNS2006

From a distance, it looks like a peaceful day of sailing. On board, the boat is full of competitive fire.

From the shore, it looks like a beautiful dance.  Onboard, its more like organized chaos.  That’s Race Week on Whidbey Island.  While the races, themselves, are strictly a private regatta, each year spectators gather along Penn Cove to watch these sailors and crew challenge each other, themselves, the sea, and the wind in a week of racing to determine who has best mastered both the skill and luck of sailing.

Races start, weather permitting, in the late morning and run through mid-afternoon.
