Hydroplane Races and PigFest – August 13 & 14

The roar of jet boats and the smell of barbecue!  They team-up in Oak Harbor the weekend of August 13 & 14 for the 2016 Oak Harbor Hydros for Heros races and the 2016 Oak Harbor PigFest.

In their 3rd year, the jet boat races feature numerous classes of jet boats racing on the harbor on both Saturday and Sunday.  About 40 boats are expected to compete.  This year the race pits are being moved from the marina to Flintstone Park where spectators can get an up-close view of the action.

Volunteers work to keep the pork barbecue coming.

Then on Sunday PigFest joins in with a foodie event that brings in thousands to sample the best barbecue in the northwest.   This year will be the third Pacific Northwest Barbecue Association sanctioned BBQ competition.  25 teams from Canada, Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana will compete in Pork Butt, Pork Ribs, Chicken and Brisket.

As usual, there will be a free barbecue lunch prepared under the watchful eye of Scott Fraser of Fraser’s Gourmet Hideaway!
