Lane Tompkins\, after 26 years of carving stone is hanging up his stone tools (in favor of clay tools) and is offering more than 30 unique sculptures in marble\, limestone\, and alabaster. Because Lane won’t be paying gallery commissions and wants to make room for future work\, these distinctive\, one-of-a-kind sculptures are priced at well below market value to clear inventory. Some are small for a coffee table\, some are large for gardens and pedestals\, and they are all unique creations with fascinating stories. \n\n\n\nFreeland Art Studios is located at 1660 Roberta Ave\, Freeland\, WA behind the WAIF Thrift Store. (The Freeland Art Studios complex is off RT 525 just south of the Main Street stoplight. Registration includes admission to the gardens\, making it the perfect opportunity to learn\, explore\, and get inspired for the growing season. \n\n\n\nRhody How to… Choosing\, Planting and Care | Saturday March 28th at 1:00pm\n\n\n\nCome learn how to choose the best “rhody” for your garden\, how and where to plant it\, and how to care for your plant to keep it beautiful and healthy. Our expert instructors will help guide you through all the “How-to’s” of rhododendron gardening.This class starts at the Welcome Center at the Gatehouse and lasts approximately 1.5 hours. Class fills at 20 people. \n\n\n\nLeaves and Flowers of Rhododendrons | Saturday April 11th at 1:00pm\n\n\n\nHave you ever looked closely at the flower of a Rhododendron? We will examine the wide variety of characteristics of rhododendron blossoms and their functions.  Then we will focus on the many types of leaves and how rhododendrons have adapted leaf shapes to protect the plant in different climates and situations. You will never look at a rhododendron the same way again!  The class will be primarily outdoors so we can observe and collect samples in the field.  Our trained docents will lead a class in the identification of the unique leaves and flowers of Meerkerk Gardens.This class starts at the Welcome Center at the Gatehouse and lasts approximately 1.5 hours. Class fills at 20 people. \n\n\n\nPruning Basics | Saturday June 6th at 11:00am and 1:00pm\n\n\n\nOur focus will be the pruning of rhododendrons\, but a lot of what you will learn can apply to many other plants. This class will be primarily outdoors so you can see pruning in action.This class starts at the Welcome Center at the Gatehouse and lasts approximately 1.5 hours. From polka to punk\, their diverse collection of songs are played with one goal in mind: to get people up and moving. Michael and David Licastro provide vocals and guitar\, Lorraine Newland on bass and vocals\, David Maloney on drums\, and Larry Neubauer on keyboard and vocals. \n\n\n\nAugust 19 – PETE the BAND PETE is the quintessential Whidbey Island garage band\, performing rock & blues dance music and American groove music. That’s right\, there’s sea life—both plant and animal—that emits its own light! It’s called bioluminescence. We’ll use our kayaks\, paddles and even hands to get you as close as possible with this incredible phenomena. We don’t go far because there’s so much to see close to shore in intertidal waters; more of a float than a paddle. For a more vigorous physical workout or if distance is your thing\, consider a daytime tour instead. But for a vibrant visual experience\, don’t miss our bioluminescence experience. We’ll use our kayaks\, paddles and even hands to get you as close as possible with this incredible phenomena. We don’t go far because there’s so much to see close to shore in intertidal waters; more of a float than a paddle. For a more vigorous physical workout or if distance is your thing\, consider a daytime tour instead. But for a vibrant visual experience\, don’t miss our bioluminescence experience. We offer these only a few times during the summer when there’s a new moon and the skies are darkest for best viewing. \n\n\n\n\n2 Hours
