It is recommended you bring your own binoculars and/or scopes\, though there will be a few on hand to borrow.  \n\n\n\nA Discover Pass or day permit is required for each vehicle. \n\n\n\nLocation: West Beach -Deception Pass State Park 41229 State Route 20 Oak Harbor\, WA\, 98277Whether arriving from the north or south on SR20\, you will come to a stoplight at the bottom of a hill. Turn west into the main park entrance. Drive past the welcome station and follow along the winding road until you reach a stop sign\, then turn left. Take this road all the way down to the end\, which will lead you to the West Beach parking lot. Restrooms are available at this location. Restrooms are available at this location.  Look for a large sign\, “Bird Walk.” \n\n\n\nFor more information click HERE \n\n\n\n“Small Sit” at Freeland County Park | April 11th – 12:00 – 2:00pm\n\n\n\nCome to the last “small sit” before our wintering ducks and grebes depart for their breeding grounds! The sit begins at high tide when the diving birds should be closer to shore. We will scan Holmes Harbor for Goldeneyes\, Scoters\, Buffleheads\, Double-crested Cormorants and Horned Grebes. On the beach we will watch for Song Sparrows and in the grass Dark-eyed Juncos and White-crowned Sparrows. Less likely possibilities include early arriving Caspian Terns or Osprey and the ever unpredictable (but common in this part of Freeland) Bushtits. \n\n\n\nCome for five minutes or the full two hours. Viewing will be from the picnic table in the grassy area between the kitchen shelter and the beach. A paved path leads from the paved parking lot to the first picnic table and then there are about 50 feet of flat short grass to get to the second picnic table. Chairs will also be available for attendees. A scope will be provided\, as well as loaner binoculars and field guides for use during the event.  \n\n\n\nFamilies with young children are encouraged to attend. The playground is next to the viewing area so kids who don’t want to bird can play while their family members watch the birds. \n\n\n\nLocation: Freeland County Park (1535 E Shoreview Drive Freeland\, WA 98249)Portable restrooms are available at the park including a wheelchair accessible porta-potty. \n\n\n\nFor more information click HERE

It is recommended you bring your own binoculars and/or scopes\, though there will be a few on hand to borrow.  \n\n\n\nA Discover Pass or day permit is required for each vehicle. \n\n\n\nLocation: West Beach -Deception Pass State Park 41229 State Route 20 Oak Harbor\, WA\, 98277Whether arriving from the north or south on SR20\, you will come to a stoplight at the bottom of a hill. Turn west into the main park entrance. Drive past the welcome station and follow along the winding road until you reach a stop sign\, then turn left. Take this road all the way down to the end\, which will lead you to the West Beach parking lot. Restrooms are available at this location. Restrooms are available at this location.  Look for a large sign\, “Bird Walk.” \n\n\n\nFor more information click HERE \n\n\n\n“Small Sit” at Freeland County Park | April 11th – 12:00 – 2:00pm\n\n\n\nCome to the last “small sit” before our wintering ducks and grebes depart for their breeding grounds! The sit begins at high tide when the diving birds should be closer to shore. We will scan Holmes Harbor for Goldeneyes\, Scoters\, Buffleheads\, Double-crested Cormorants and Horned Grebes. On the beach we will watch for Song Sparrows and in the grass Dark-eyed Juncos and White-crowned Sparrows. Less likely possibilities include early arriving Caspian Terns or Osprey and the ever unpredictable (but common in this part of Freeland) Bushtits. \n\n\n\nCome for five minutes or the full two hours. Viewing will be from the picnic table in the grassy area between the kitchen shelter and the beach. A paved path leads from the paved parking lot to the first picnic table and then there are about 50 feet of flat short grass to get to the second picnic table. Chairs will also be available for attendees. A scope will be provided\, as well as loaner binoculars and field guides for use during the event.  \n\n\n\nFamilies with young children are encouraged to attend. Our expert instructors will help guide you through all the “How-to’s” of rhododendron gardening.This class starts at the Welcome Center at the Gatehouse and lasts approximately 1.5 hours. Class fills at 20 people. \n\n\n\nLeaves and Flowers of Rhododendrons | Saturday April 11th at 1:00pm\n\n\n\nHave you ever looked closely at the flower of a Rhododendron? We will examine the wide variety of characteristics of rhododendron blossoms and their functions.  Then we will focus on the many types of leaves and how rhododendrons have adapted leaf shapes to protect the plant in different climates and situations. You will never look at a rhododendron the same way again!  The class will be primarily outdoors so we can observe and collect samples in the field.  Our trained docents will lead a class in the identification of the unique leaves and flowers of Meerkerk Gardens.This class starts at the Welcome Center at the Gatehouse and lasts approximately 1.5 hours. Class fills at 20 people. \n\n\n\nPruning Basics | Saturday June 6th at 11:00am and 1:00pm\n\n\n\nOur focus will be the pruning of rhododendrons\, but a lot of what you will learn can apply to many other plants. This class will be primarily outdoors so you can see pruning in action.This class starts at the Welcome Center at the Gatehouse and lasts approximately 1.5 hours.
