As you paddle away from shore and venture farther out into the dark\, you’ll experience Mother Nature’s own light show of sparkles in the water beneath you with stars twinkling above. That’s right\, there’s sea life—both plant and animal—that emits its own light! It’s called bioluminescence. We’ll use our kayaks\, paddles and even hands to get you as close as possible with this incredible phenomena. We don’t go far because there’s so much to see close to shore in intertidal waters; more of a float than a paddle. For a more vigorous physical workout or if distance is your thing\, consider a daytime tour instead. But for a vibrant visual experience\, don’t miss our bioluminescence experience. We offer these only a few times during the summer when there’s a new moon and the skies are darkest for best viewing. \n\n\n\n\n2 Hours

 \n\n\n\nIt is timely that The Giddy Round should bring its King John to ISF this summer with Robin Hood of Sherwood Forest on its stage. Robin Hood’s Prince John went on to become king\, and Shakespeare dramatized his reign in his play.

As you paddle away from shore and venture farther out into the dark\, you’ll experience Mother Nature’s own light show of sparkles in the water beneath you with stars twinkling above. That’s right\, there’s sea life—both plant and animal—that emits its own light! It’s called bioluminescence. We’ll use our kayaks\, paddles and even hands to get you as close as possible with this incredible phenomena. We don’t go far because there’s so much to see close to shore in intertidal waters; more of a float than a paddle. For a more vigorous physical workout or if distance is your thing\, consider a daytime tour instead. But for a vibrant visual experience\, don’t miss our bioluminescence experience. We offer these only a few times during the summer when there’s a new moon and the skies are darkest for best viewing. \n\n\n\n\n2 Hours

Every mile ridden helps WhidbeyHealth Foundation in securing resources for high-quality healthcare for all on Whidbey Island. \n\n\n\nRoutes \n\n\n\n(ALL routes have fully stocked hospitality break-stations every 10-12 miles\, and all routes begin and end at Coupeville Elementary School.) \n\n\n\nSouth Island Stretch | 100.4 mile | +6844 ftNew for 2026\, The South Island Stretch covers 100 miles of everything that makes riding on Whidbey Island special. Quiet country roads\, sweeping Puget Sound views\, charming small towns\, and climbs that will test your legs and reward you with scenery worth every pedal stroke. Starting and finishing at Coupeville Elementary School\, riders head south through the island’s spine\, loop through Freeland and Langley\, push all the way down to the Clinton area\, and wind their way back north. With 6\,828 feet of elevation gain\, this route is a genuine achievement. Train well\, fuel up\, and enjoy every mile. \n\n\n\nLangley Loop | 66.2 mile | +4485 ftThe Langley Loop is the metric century that has it all. Starting and finishing at Coupeville Elementary School\, this 66-mile route takes riders south along the west side of the island toward Mutiny Bay\, then swings east to the charming waterfront village of Langley. Known for its galleries\, restaurants\, and stunning views of Saratoga Passage\, Langley makes a fitting landmark at the far point of the route. From there\, riders make their way back north through Freeland and up through the island’s heart to Coupeville. With 4\,484 feet of elevation gain and a max grade pushing 10%\, The Langley Loop will challenge you — and reward you with some of the most beautiful riding in the Pacific Northwest. \n\n\n\nFreeland Fondo | 49.1 mile | +3288 ftNew for 2026\, The Freeland Fondo delivers everything you love about riding on Whidbey Island in one satisfying package. Starting and finishing at Coupeville Elementary School\, this 48.6-mile route heads south along the west side of the island\, passing through rolling farmland and catching glimpses of Admiralty Inlet before reaching Freeland. From there\, the route swings back north along the east side\, tracing the shores of Holmes Harbor on the return to Coupeville. With 3\,249 feet of elevation gain and a max grade just over 10%\, this is a ride that will push you — and leave you grinning at the finish line. \n\n\n\nNorth Ender | 35.8 mile | +1762 ftNew for 2026\, The North Ender takes you where no other Tour de Whidbey route goes. Starting and finishing at Coupeville Elementary School\, this 36-mile route heads north through the Penn Cove area and up into Oak Harbor\, offering wide open riding and views that feel a world away from the island’s busier south end. The return trip winds back south through the rolling terrain around Ebey’s Landing and Fort Casey before bringing you home to Coupeville. With 1\,772 feet of elevation gain and a max grade of 8.6%\, it’s a satisfying challenge with plenty of variety and big sky views that only the north end of Whidbey can deliver. \n\n\n\nFort Casey Slow-roll (Family Friendly) | 11.3 mile | +263 ftSome rides are about the challenge. The Fort Casey Slow Roll is about the joy. This beloved 11-mile route is the heart and soul of Tour de Whidbey — a gentle\, scenic loop that welcomes riders of all ages and abilities to experience the best of central Whidbey Island. Starting at Coupeville Elementary School\, the route winds through the stunning open farmland of Ebey’s Landing National Historical Reserve before looping around Fort Casey State Park\, a historic military installation perched on the bluffs above Admiralty Inlet. With just 263 feet of elevation gain and a max grade under 2%\, there’s nothing standing between you and a perfect morning on the island. More Shakespeare — and then some. \n\n\n\nAugust 1st | 1:00 – 2:00pm | Red Eagle SoaringRed Eagle Soaring brings its spring touring production to the Whidbey stage. This Seattle-based nonprofit empowers urban Native youth through free programs blending contemporary theatre and traditional Native performing arts\, sharing original stories of culture\, identity\, and community across the Northwest. \n\n\n\nAugust 7th | 1:00-2:30pm | James Donlon Physical Theatre PerformanceAn afternoon of physical theatre\, mask\, comedy and solo performance with  James Donlon. Donlon\, considered one of the world’s most accomplished artists in the craft of movement theatre\, brings over 50 years of international performance experience to physical solo-storytelling. This show is intended for mature audiences of 15 years old and above. \n\n\n\nAugust 14th 1:00pm\, 15th 1:00pm & 17th 6:00pm: King John: A Solo PerformanceRobin Hood’s Prince John went on to become king\, and Shakespeare dramatized his reign in a sharp and timely critique of unconstrained power and its abuses. This solo show delivers a single narrative through-line that honors the essence of the rarely produced play\, but allows for a more focused and incisive piece of theatre. \n\n\n\nShakespeare’s bold\, strikingly modern King John is one of his sharpest critiques of unconstrained power and its abuses—an unflinching portrait of the bloody price that a whole society must pay for the political ambitions of a reckless few. Yet even within his jagged narrative\, Shakespeare finds poignancy\, humanity\, heartbreak and humor shimmering through a darkly cynical vision that feels startlingly\, urgently familiar.

 \n\n\n\nIt is timely that The Giddy Round should bring its King John to ISF this summer with Robin Hood of Sherwood Forest on its stage. Robin Hood’s Prince John went on to become king\, and Shakespeare dramatized his reign in his play. 

 \n\n\n\nThis swift and lean solo adaptation is an international collaboration between Macedonian director Damjan Dimovski and U.S.-based actor/adapter Matthew Windham. The production runs about 65-70 minutes. \n\n\n\nAugust 22nd 1:00pm\, 29th 1:00pm\, & September 5th 1:00pm: Sound & Fury\, An Improvised ShakespearienceISF Beyond features its theatre neighbors for “Sound & Fury\,” a fully improvised Shakespearean play presented by Whidbey Improv and OutCast Productions. \n\n\n\nThe world of Shakespeare is brought to life here\, blending Elizabethan flair with contemporary comedy.
