DESCRIPTION:The McClinchy Camano Classic Century is scheduled for Sunday\, April 27\, 2025\, offering cyclists a chance to experience Camano Island’s scenic beauty\, including stunning water and mountain views\, along with challenging climbs. \n\n\n\nRegistration Details: \n\n\n\n\nEarly Registration: Available through BikeReg.\n\n\n\nRegistration: $75\, save $10 if your register before Aril 1\, 2025\n\n\n\nDay-of-Ride Registration: Costs $80\, with an additional processing fee.\n\n\n\nSouvenir: The first 200 registered riders will receive a commemorative souvenir.\n\n\n\n\nRegister HERE \n\n\n\nRoute distances of 103\, 65\, 50\, 34 or 15 miles. Finish with the flat and fast Stanwood Farms Route. Elevation gain: 5\,269 feet. \n\n\n\n65 mile Metric Century Route  |  Combine the Camano Perimeter and Stanwood Farm routes for a real test of your legs. 3 food stops. Elevation gain: 3\,200 feet.  \n\n\n\n50 mile Camano Perimeter Route  | Very challenging\, but worth it! 2 rest stops to keep you fueled as you enjoy the water views\, trees and beach houses.  \n\n\n\n35 mile Camano Route  |  Hilly with beautiful views of mountains and Sound. Rest stop at Cama Beach State Park. Elevation gain: 2\,229 feet. \n\n\n\n15 mile Stanwood Farms Route  |  Say “hi” to the cows on this scenic\, mostly flat ride. Route is on quiet back roads\, but includes a few miles on a rural highway. Elevation gain: 349 feet. \n\n\n\nNote: Riders must share the road with vehicles. DESCRIPTION:Earth Day celebration this year at Deception Pass will be hosted at a beloved location in our park – West Beach! The event will mainly focus on the important role our sand dunes play in protecting our shorelines. The sand dunes found here at Deception Pass are an incredibly unique ecosystem\, one of only a few of its kind in the Puget Sound. The long dune grass covering much of the sand at West Beach is actually not native to the area. This causes trouble for native plants\, like yellow sand verbena\, from thriving where they’re supposed to. Join in to help restore our dunes back to their native state. \n\n\n\nAgenda\n\n\n\n10:00am – 12:00pm  |  Earth Day ActivitiesCoffee and snacks will be provided. Bird walk and dune walk will begin at 10:15am. As walks complete there will be three self-guided stations: birding with spotting scopes\, a microplastics demonstration\, and a gray whale station with a 9.5 ft skull.12:00pm – 12:30pm  |  LunchProvided lunch will include light sandwiches\, snacks and drinks. \n\n\n\n12:30pm – 3:30pm  |  Dune Grass RestorationJoin staff to hand pull non-native dune grass. DESCRIPTION:Saratoga Orchestra Presents “Rhythms of Nature IV: Percussion\, Prose\, and Poetry” in the Main Barn at Greenbank Farm – Celebrating Whidbey Island’s Earth and Ocean Month This highly anticipated event\, celebrating Whidbey’s Earth and Ocean Month\, will be an inspiring afternoon of chamber music and spoken word performances\, with free admission and donations warmly encouraged. \n\n\n\nThis year’s program will feature a diverse range of compositions\, including works by composers Frederick Rzewski\, Samuel Barber\, Terry Riley and Serge Rachmaninoff\, alongside original pieces by four Pacific Northwest composers: Rumiana Drumeva\, Mitchell Beck\, Lea Fetterman and Alex Shapiro. \n\n\n\nProgram Highlights: \n\n\n\n\nFrederick Rzewski’s “To the Earth” for Flower Pots and Speaker – an experimental composition exploring the intersection of sound\, object\, and environment.\n\n\n\nRumiana Drumeva’s Salish Sea Melody for violin and keyboard\, capturing the serene and often moody beauty of the Salish Sea.\n\n\n\nMitchell Beck’s Water and Sand for percussion\, featuring multi-media projections and an audio track.\n\n\n\nAlex Shapiro’s Water Voyage for clarinet\, bassoon\, and audio track\, exploring nature’s rhythms.\n\n\n\nWhidbey Island Horn Ensemble and soprano Eva Nelson will perform art songs by Samuel Barber and Serge Rachmaninoff.\n\n\n\nThe iconic minimalist piece\, Terry Riley’s “In C”\, will be a chance for community musicians to collaborate\, offering an improvisational and immersive musical experience.\n\n\n\n\nLocal spoken word poets Faith Wilder\, Lea Fetterman and Linda Beeman will be enhancing the music with the spoken word with the likes of poems by James Agee as well as original works of Beeman and Fetterman. \n\n\n\nThe concert will be anchored by the theme “The Earth has music for those that listen… Will you?”\, encouraging audiences to engage with the natural world through the universal language of music. \n\n\n\nOrchestraFor more information www.sowhidbey.com or 360-929-3045
