Children 12 and under are free. \n\n\n\nThe Stanwood Camano Snow Goose and Birding Festival has become one of the premier events in this region and makes our area a destination for Northwest Birders. Each February\, over 500 birding and nature enthusiasts visit the Stanwood Camano area to celebrate the Snow Geese and other shorebirds that have migrated to this region for years. Due to dedicated volunteers and the generous support of sponsors\, the festival has made a significant impact to our community. \n\n\n\nThe Stanwood Area Historical Society board continues to take the lead on this festival along with a community coalition and are pleased to host the 2026 Stanwood Camano Snow Goose and Birding Festival. The organizations and individuals in the community that have come forward and offered to co-host and ensure that the festival takes place include Sound Water Stewards\, Friends of Camano Island Parks and Stanwood Camano Arts Advocacy Commission. Last year the festival collected data from 390 guests and 85 volunteers. Children under 12 were admitted free and SCAAC provided art activities for them. \n\n\n\nThe festival began in 2006 and has always had a contest to select a local artist to provide artwork for the poster. This year SCAAC led a Call for Art and we have selected a winner. The artist will be showcased at the event and will sign the posters which can be sold for keepsakes. Walks occur rain or shine but are canceled in case of snow or high winds. Participants should dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes or boots. No pass is required for walks scheduled in the State Park. For the safety of all participants\, dogs are not allowed. \n\n\n\nSchedule (all walks meet at 9:45am) \n\n\n\nMarch 7th | Cama Beach to Camano Island State Park | Meet at 9:45 AM at Ivy Way Trailhead off of Dry Lake Road. You can access Dry Lake Road from Elger Bay or Monticello Roads.  Walk from the trailhead parking area to the South Beach of Camano Island State Park along the Cross Island and West Rim trails enjoying downhill and level terrains with great views. The walk is about 3.2 miles. Shuttle service will be available to return participants to the trailhead.  No state park Discover Pass is required. \n\n\n\nApril 4th |  Four Springs Lake Preserve | Meet at 9:45 AM at the parking area of Four Springs. Proceed from East or West Camano Drive and turn onto Camano Hill Road.  Turn north onto Lewis Lane. A FOCIP Walk sign will designate Lewis Lane.  See this beautiful preserve with a walk on the Perimeter Trail including the wetland trail. The Perimeter Trail includes two 50 ft fairly steep hills with benches for resting at the top. The distance of the walk is approximately 2 miles. Hopefully\, the skunk cabbage will be in bloom!  A peek at the day rental Four Spring House and Meadow Room and Barn will be available if there is no rental scheduled that day. \n\n\n\nMay 2nd | Iverson Spit Preserve; Kristoferson Creek Habitat\, English Boom Historical Park | Participants should arrive at Iverson Spit at 9:45 AM.  Iverson is accessed from East Camano Drive\, east on Russell Road\, south on Sunrise Road to Iverson Beach Road.  Look for the FOCIP Walk signs.  The parking area is at the north end past the beach houses. A short level walk will include views of Port Susan and a beaver activity area and the “Hobbit Trail.”  Drivers will caravan to Kristoferson Creek Habitat a short distance away\, for a brief visit. The caravan of cars will then move to English Boom Historical Park. The walk at English Boom is about 1 mile in length on a marsh trail along Skagit Bay. Mt. Baker view and interpretive boards are some of the special features of this historical park. \n\n\n\nJune 6th |  Barnum Point County Park | This newest Island County Park\, has been fully open for 7 years.  The walk is about 3.3 miles.  Great views\, wetlands\, viewing platforms and benches fill this trail experiences. A large parking lot allows for many visitors and there will be extra parking at the Island County workshop and storage areas. Three accesses to the beach exist\, one down a beach road at the East end of the trail system and two more level approaches at the old inn site and the West end of the trail system at Triangle Cove. Meet at 9:45 a.m. at the new parking area located at the end of Sunrise Road.  (East Camano Road to Russell Road to Sunrise Road). Ineke will bring samples of the freezing process for her floral images in various stages of development. She will be photographing them during the demo\, showing samples and answering your questions. The process of photographing flowers frozen in blocks of ice has resulted in these ethereal and painterly images. Ineke arranges flowers in water and freezes them. This is a slow process\, usually taking a couple of days. The flowers in ice are then photographed with a macro lens using only natural light. The variability of light and the changes in the formation of the ice produce unpredictable results. Whidbey Art Gallery is a member-owned gallery which includes over 30 talented island artists. We highlight a wide variety of media including\, oil\, acrylic and encaustic painting\, sculpture\, ceramics\, jewelry\, and metal work.  \n\n\n\nMember Show for March “A Touch of Spring”The Whidbey Art Gallery will be hosting a member show for March with the theme\, “A Touch of Spring”. Acclaimed playwright Steven Dietz brings the famed Belgian detective to life to solve the Queen of Mystery’s most intricate whodunits with a host of usual and unusual suspects. Directed by Lani Brockman\, recently of WICA’s The Cake and Fiddler on the Roof\, the production will open on February 20 in Zech Hall\, an intimate setting perfect for the fast-paced and entertaining crime. \n\n\n\n“We’re so excited to bring the eccentric and iconic Hercule Poirot to our stage\,” said WICA Executive Artistic Director Deana Duncan. “Agatha Christie is such a powerful female voice within the mystery genre and to bring her work to our stage in the form of Steven Dietz’s play is an incredible honor.
