Hot Composting Demo
September 24, 2017 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Immediately following the Farmers’ Market, Tilth will host a demo/seminar on hot composting. Hot composting is a composting technique that combines organic materials, oxygen and moisture and natural bacteria to build a compost pile that can produce usable compost in a surprisingly short time. When constructed properly, a hot compost pile can achieve temperatures of up to 160 degrees, hot enough to kill off many weed seeds and pathogens.
Taught by Master Gardener and Tilth member Thomas Vincent, this hands on class will include such topics as which organic materials work best, what tools are needed, space requirements, and labor involved. Participants should come away with enough knowledge to successfully build their own hot compost pile at home. The class will be held at the Tilth Campus. There is no cost for the class but a suggested donation of $8 to Tilth would be welcomed.
