Saratoga Orchestra of Whidbey Island presents American Classics & Jazz, a set of programs on March 10, 7pm at South Whidbey High School and March 11, 2:30pm at Oak Harbor High School. Music Director, Anna Edwards, leads the orchestra in a program highlighting some of America’s favorite composers of the 20th century.
From Tin Pan Alley to Birdland to Carnegie Hall, composers Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, and Duke Ellington will be celebrated for their contribution to our popular musical culture.
Katyrose Jordan fronts the Saratoga Orchestra and Whidbey Jazz Orchestra on Nelson Riddle’s lush vocal arrangements
from the Great American Songbook and showcases her saxophone playing on Charlie Parker’s arrangements with strings.
Angelique Poteat pays homage to Artie Shaw on clarinet and John C. Wylie, of NAS Whidbey and former member of the Navy’s 7th Fleet Band on tenor sax, will be joined by Keegan Harshman, jazz bassist and Julian Garvue, an award-winning New York City-based jazz pianist, to celebrate some of America’s greatest composers.

​As a special treat, Island County Commissioner, Helen Price Johnson (Mar.10) and Oak Harbor Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Lance Gibbon (Mar.11) take to the podium as our guest conductors on “Stars and Stripes Forever” by John Philip Sousa.

General Admission tickets are $25 Adult and $20 Senior/Military. Students under 18 admitted free (under 14 must be accompanied by a paying adult).  Tickets available at Blue Sound Music and Moonraker Books in Langley, bayleaf in Coupeville, and Click Music in Oak Harbor.
