What day at the beach is complete without a picnic? To simplify your day and support a local business, let someone else do the cooking! Turns out mid-Whidbey is a one-stop picnic headquarters! Today, these waters are still an essential part of life for islanders. So gather up the kids and explore a new beach or an old favorite. Windjammer Park in Oak Harbor has many special features, including over 2000 feet of waterfront trail, perfect for pushing a stroller or wheelchair. The vast Fort Casey State Park stretches well over 400 acres and offers a dose of military history along with stunning views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

Everything is Better at the Beach

With so many lovely parks and beaches to choose from, you’ll find fresh and ready picnic items close to any destination. Elger Bay Groceries and Gifts is both a market and restaurant.  It’s South Camano Island location puts it close to several state and county beaches.  For yummy sandwiches stop by Pickles Deli in Clinton or the Whidbey Island Bagel Factory next door, also located in Oak Harbor. The new Langley Kitchen offers deli items and baked goods. Pick up coffee and dessert from Sunshine Drip in Coupeville, or nearby Bayleaf for a gourmet basket. Be sure to check out Camano Commons Marketplace for local espresso, pastries, ice cream, and all the summer staples.
