Celebration of Dance returns to Whidbey Island Center for the Arts (WICA) this May, showcasing the exceptional talent of Whidbey Island Dance Theatre (WIDT)’s 22 pre-professional dancers, special guest artists—including the renowned Meander Dance Collective—and celebrated choreographers.
With performances on Friday, May 16 at 7:30pm, and Saturday, May 17 at 2:00pm & 7:30pm, this annual tradition invites audiences of all ages to witness a powerful fusion of contemporary, jazz, tap, acro, and more—an electrifying celebration of the human spirit through dance.
This year’s Celebration of Dance is extra special—it’s part of WICA’s 29th Anniversary festivities! Two of Langley’s most beloved cultural institutions unite for an unforgettable weekend of artistic excellence, community pride, and boundary-pushing choreography.
From the sweeping lyricism of guest choreographer Sophia Stoller’s “Falling Stars”, to the bold, expressive work of WIDT dancers-turned-choreographers like Madison Guzman, who was selected by The Ballet Alliance to present her original piece “Finding Home” on a national stage—Celebration of Dance is bursting with innovation, youth-driven creativity, and world-class artistry.
And there’s more: audience members will experience new works by guest choreographer Aaron Cash, as well as original pieces created and performed by WIDT’s own dancers—thanks to the vision of Artistic Directors Jamee Pitts and Mark Thrapp, who are committed to keeping the Whidbey dance scene fresh, vibrant, and deeply meaningful.
