Freeland Art Studios Open House
June 22 @ 11:00 am - 4:00 pm
FreePlease join us 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, as we celebrate another bountiful year of making art.
The Freeland Art Studios will slide open its giant doors to the public for its annual Open House event on Saturday, June 22. We have eleven artists working in a variety of media, our artists are Ken Barnes, Penelope Crittenden, Carol Rose Dean, Charles LaFond, Tom Lindsay, Benjamin Mefford, Matt Monforte, Alexandra Morosco, Sue Taves, Lane Tompkins, and Lloyd Whannell.
Freeland Art Studios is a unique industrial-quality professional studio geared towards the community support of artists and the rigors of creating with stone, metal, clay, and more. During the Open House you can tour the working studio spaces in the 7000 sq. foot building and enjoy displays of artwork available for sale. FAS houses multiple individual artist workspaces and common areas with artists working in a variety of different media including stone, bronze, metal, clay tile, pottery, oil and acrylic painting, cast glass, mixed media, and water features.
In news this year, Sue Taves is working on a 8+ ton stone commission that will be going to Oregon this Fall. Slimming it down to a mere 5 tons is her goal for the summer!
Alexandra Morosco is focused on a large granite commission for a park in Federal Way as well as several unique fine art memorials in stone and bronze.
Speaking of bronze, appreciate the fine work that Lane Tompkins has done in bronze sculpture using the lost wax casting method, as well as his work in stone.
Lloyd Whannell has been busy distributing new sculptures in his “Silent Watcher” series to their new homes in McMinnville, OR, Santa Rosa, CA, and Ketchum, ID, and he’s just got a new delivery of some creamy Texas limestone to make more!
Matt Monforte, as an oil painter, is our most clean and quiet artist! Over the buzz and hum of power tools, he creates gorgeous atmospheric landscapes that capture the pastoral mood of the island and beyond.
Center-down with beautiful pottery by Charles LaFond, where you will find one of a kind works to bring celebration to your table every day.
Most of the artists will be at the studio for the open house and we hope you will stop by to say hello and see what we’ve been up to for this last year.
Freeland Art Studios is located at 1660 Roberta Ave, Freeland, WA behind the WAIF Thrift Store.
