Orca Recovery Day

Join this year’s Orca Recovery Day celebration at Cornet Bay! Several walk and talk events through out the day will be intermingled with volunteering at shoreline restoration plantings.
The Island County Marine Resources Committee and the Northwest Straits Foundation will be hosting a stewardship event focusing on planting and mulching to continue the great work at the Cornet Bay Restoration site, including the now-restored Hoypus Point.
Walk and Talks
- 10:30am | Sound Water Stewards Cornet Bay Marina Dock demonstration of crab light traps they are monitoring for the Swinomish Crab Abundance Monitoring Project.Â
- 11:30am | Northwest Straits Foundation will discuss restoration efforts at Cornet Bay and Hoypus Point over the years on the walk from Cornet Bay Marina to Hoypus Point.
- 12:00pm | Orca Network will focus on the endangered Southern Resident orcas, demonstrating why restoration projects are important to the health of the orcas and salmon during the noon break at Hoypus Point.
- 1:30pm | WICD planner James Watson will highlight native habitat along the shorelines and their importance in improving local habitat quality and diversity on the walk back to Cornet Bay Marina.Â
