The 2026 theme is “Tracing Life through the Salish Sea”
Tickets are now on sale for the 2026 Sound Waters University, the 32nd annual education program of Sound Water Stewards. The event will take place on Saturday, Feb. 7, at Coupeville High School, with optional field trips on Feb. 8. This year’s theme, “Tracing Life through the Salish Sea,” explores the intricate web of relationships that connect species, habitats, and communities throughout this unique marine ecosystem. The 2026 program promises something for everyone, including an expanded offering of expert-led sessions, inspirational keynote speakers and fascinating field locations.
Among the offerings:
- A selection of classes that explore the latest research and case studies around topics including sea birds, river otters, geology, butterflies, salmon and conservation case studies
- An opening presentation on orca eco-cultures by Dr. Florian Grainer, a well-known wildlife filmmaker and executive director of Sound Water Stewards.
- A closing speech by environmental author and educator Elin Kelsey, PhD, who will speak on “How to be Hopeful: Empowering Practices to Overcome Despair and Act for Climate Justice.”
- An opportunity to meet and network with representatives from local environmental and community groups.
- Optional field trips to locations around Whidbey and Camano islands, including the newly preserved Keystone Farm and Forest property.
Registration deadline: Jan. 31
$70 Ticket: Each ticket includes admission to two Keynote Speakers + two elective classes. Limited Space. Ticket sales close on January 31st for the Event and Field Trips Add-ons.
