All walks begin at 9:45 AM and finish by noon, with a moderate pace suitable for both adults and children. Walks occur rain or shine but are canceled in case of snow or high winds. Participants should dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes or boots. No pass is required for walks scheduled in the State Park. For the safety of all participants, dogs are not allowed.
Schedule (all walks meet at 9:45am)
Feb 1st | Camano Ridge Forest Preserve | Meet at the Camano Ridge West entrance parking lot on Camano Ridge Road, located between Cross Island Road and Camano Hills Road. The parking area is on the east side of the road, just north of the Carp Lake Road intersection. The 3.3-mile walk includes the East and West Loops and the Wetland Trail. Trails are mostly level with a few short inclines.
Mar 1st | Cama to Camano Island State Park | Meet at the Ivy Road cul-de-sac Cama trailhead off Dry Lake Road, accessible via East Camano Road or Monticello Road. The 3.2-mile walk follows the Cross Island and West Rim trails to South Beach in Camano Island State Park, featuring downhill and level terrain with scenic views. Shuttle service will be available to return participants to the trailhead.
Apr 5 | Four Springs Lake Preserve | Meet at the Four Springs parking area. From East or West Camano Drive, turn onto Camano Hill Road, then head north on Lewis Lane, marked with a FOCIP Walk sign. Enjoy a 2-mile walk on the Perimeter Trail, including the Wetland Trail. The route features two 50-foot steep hills with benches at the top for resting. Look out for blooming skunk cabbage! If not rented that day, participants can also peek inside the Four Springs House, Meadow Room, and Barn.
May 3 | Iverson Spit Preserve; Kristoferson Creek Habitat, English Boom Historical Park | Meet at Iverson Spit, accessed via East Camano Drive, east on Russell Road, south on Sunrise Road, and south to Iverson Beach Road. Park at the north end past the beach houses. A short, level walk will offer views of Port Susan, a beaver activity area, and the ‘Hobbit Trail.’ Drivers will caravan to Kristoferson Creek Habitat nearby for a brief visit, followed by a trip to English Boom Historical Park. The 1-mile walk at English Boom features a marsh trail along Skagit Bay, a Mt. Baker view, interpretive boards, and a boardwalk showcasing the park’s history.
June 7 | Barnum Point County Park | This newest Island County Park has been open for six years and offers a 3.3-mile walk with great views, wetlands, viewing platforms, and benches along the trail. A large parking lot is available, with additional parking at the Island County workshop and storage area. Meet at the parking area at the end of Sunrise Road (via East Camano Road, Russell Road, and Sunrise Road).
