If you’re looking for an easy, scenic, and totally dog-friendly weekend trip from Seattle, Whidbey Island is the perfect escape! With off-leash beaches, cozy small town vibes, and beautiful waterfront views, it’s a haven for both humans and their four-legged companions. My dog Koda and I recently spent a weekend exploring the island, and I’m already dreaming about going back!
Day 1: Ferry Rides and a Seaside Welcome
Our trip began with a short ferry ride from Mukilteo to Clinton, which takes about 30 minutes (though the wait to get onto the ferry itself can be much longer depending on traffic, so plan accordingly!). We drove onto the ferry and spent the ride enjoying the view from the outer decks. Note: dogs aren’t allowed in the passenger cabin, but they’re welcome to roam the rest of the ferry as long as they’re leashed.
After landing, it was just a short drive to our beachfront Airbnb, nestled right outside the charming town of Langley. We dropped off our bags and headed to Village Pizzeria to pick up some takeout pizza. While we waited, we strolled along Seawall Park, a peaceful waterfront stretch that’s ideal for catching the sunset!
We wrapped up the night with pizza (we loved the clam one!) and wine back at our Airbnb, with the waves providing just the right background soundtrack.

Day 2: Beaches, Bagels, and Backyard Concerts
We kicked off Saturday with breakfast at Whidbey Island Bagel Factory, a lively spot full of locals and visitors alike. The bagels were fantastic – we got one hearty bacon, egg, and sausage on an everything bagel, and a standout lox on a special banh-mi bagel.
Our morning continued at Marguerite Brons Memorial Park, which included a spacious off-leash dog park stocked with tennis balls and Chuck-it throwers. Koda had an absolute blast playing fetch before then embarking on a short stroll through the connecting forest trails. From there, we headed to Double Bluff Beach, one of the most dog-friendly beaches on the island. Off-leash dogs (under voice control) are welcome in designated areas, and Koda made the most of it – sprinting through the sand, splashing in the water, and making plenty of furry friends.
Back in Langley, we stopped at Langley Kitchen for lunch – delicious sandwiches and some of the friendliest staff you’ll meet (Koda loved all of the attention)! For dessert, we picked up a couple slices at Whidbey Pies, and the marionberry pie warmed up back at the Airbnb was just pure bliss!!
After a chill afternoon relaxing back at our Airbnb, we headed to Greenbank Cidery to continue a laid-back evening. There, we sampled cider flights, grabbed hot dogs and tater tots for dinner, and listened to live music in a relaxed outdoor setting – truly an ideal way to unwind on a beautiful night.

Day 3: Breakfast, Zoomies, and the Scenic Route Home
Sunday morning, we checked out of the Airbnb and grabbed breakfast at The Braeburn Restaurant, a Langley staple. Their outdoor back patio is dog-friendly and shaded, and the menu? Let’s just say the skillet and benedict dishes were a strong finale to a weekend of great eats!
Still full from breakfast, we made one more stop at Greenbank Farm, which offers a sprawling off-leash field surrounded by scenic walking trails. Koda ran wild while we soaked in the views and tried to walk off some of our breakfast calories.
Instead of heading straight home on the ferry, we opted to take the slightly longer, more scenic route via Deception Pass. The beautiful views (both from the state park and the bridge itself) made the detour well worth the extra time, and it was the perfect finale to a super fun weekend!
Final Thoughts
Whidbey Island is a gem for dog lovers – a perfectly quick getaway packed with charm, adventure, and dog-friendly options at every stop. From off-leash beaches to outdoor-friendly cafés and scenic trails, every part of the trip felt so welcoming to Koda.
