County Parks

Island County has invested heavily in acquiring unique properties for county parks.  With free admission, these parks may be the biggest bargains in the county.

    Ala Spit County Park Trail

    This 12 acre county park features a 1 mile long easy trail with dramatic views of the small islands in the northern part of Skagit Bay.

    Barnum Point County Park

    Barnum Point is Camano Island's newest park. It features a pristine beach, trails through the woods and wetlands and a beautiful bluff view.

    Camano Ridge offers a number of dog-friendly forest (on leashes) trails in its 400 acres of forest.

    Cavalero Beach County Park

    This park, located on the eastern side of Camano Island, has a beautiful view of the Cascades, picnic facilities, and a boat ramp.   There is a fee to use the ramp, $5 a day for residents, $15 for non-residents.

    The boat ramp is currently closed due to buildup of sand. The 5 acre park is open. Amenities include Playground, Restroom Facility Including Shower and Dog Wash, Beach Access, Ball field & Grandstand, 3 Picnic Shelters & BBQ’s for individual events, Group Picnic Shelter Area with Brick Stove BBQ.

    Double Bluff Beach on Whidbey Island near Freeland offers a wide, long sandy beach, dramatic bluffs, and off-leash dog walking.

    English Boom

    English Boom is a park along the north shore of Camano Island. It features trails, including an ADA compliant trail, scenic views, and great bird-watching opportunities.

    • Freeland-Park-Holmes-Harbor-3

    Freeland Park – Holmes Harbor

    With a great view of Holmes Harbor, this park is a local favorite. Besides a boat ramp and dock, amenities include a picnic area with BBQ grills, covered picnic shelters, pavilion with picnic table and BBQ Grill, restrooms, playgrounds, and walking trails.     Iverson Spit Preserve

    Iverson Spit Preserve is a well-developed walking trail and is listed by the Audubon of Washington as one of 68 hot spots for bird watching.

    Joseph Whidbey State Park

    Joseph Whidbey State Park is a 112-acre day-use park with 3,100 feet of saltwater shoreline on the Strait of Juan De Fuca in northern Puget Sound.

    Rhododendron Park

    Rhododendron Park is a 32-acre county-owned park with three groomed ball fields, a covered picnic area, and bathrooms. There’s also an extensive trail system for hikers.     Swan Lake is a lagoonal marsh towards the north end of Whidbey Island that is a favorite spot for bird watching.

    This is a small park, only 1/2 acre in size, but with picnicking and classically beautiful views across the water to the Cascade Mountain Range.
